I live in the south on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The winters
are usually mild and snow occurs once every twenty years and melts in 2 hours.
We do have days when the temperature drops below freezing and you have to run
outside and cover tender vegetation to prevent losing your plants. Even people
in the south could benefit from knowing how to build a greenhouse because the
temperature even in our mild winters would not be conducive to growing plants
and vegetables all year round. It would be much more valuable to people up north
where the winters are cold and snow is plentiful.
I did have an uncle
when I was growing up in New Orleans who had his own greenhouse and grew
flowers, vegetables and especially peppers year round. He was famous for his
peppers which he marinated in some kind of vinegar and oil and he kept the
family supplied with hot pepper sauce which was well received in New Orleans.
The farmer's market is a very popular place on weekends in south Mississippi so
obviously people like their fresh vegetables.
One big advantage to having
your own greenhouse is year-round fresh vegetables on your dinner plate. Now the
idea of a greenhouse does not appeal to everyone, but help is available to
anyone who is interested.
If you are not into eating a lot of
vegetables, many wives and housekeepers would appreciate fresh flowers to grace
the dinner table and decorate the house all year round. If you want to know all
about greenhouses, from how they work to how to build and maintain one you can
get all the details in this well written
