Georgia Dome Rocks with Tornado
warning during SEC tourney
The Mississippi- Alabama
game is interrupted by Tornado warning. The dome is moving and the teams
have left the floor. The debris is falling from the roof. The fans are
still there watching. The scaffolding is shaking. Major roof damage is
evident. A report from someone who called me who is in the dome says it
was scary. The roof ripped and the lights were shaking. He says it was a
tornado. There was panic among the fans. Amazingly they think it is safer
inside the dome. They are deciding if the game should continue. A decision
will be made in the next five minutes about continuation of the game. The
PA announcer has reported that they will try to continue in 10 to 20
minutes. The Georgia Dome officials have inspected the roof and feel it is
safe to continue if weather allows. the sound of the tornado is recorded
by television.
The storm alert
has been cleared as of 10:15 pm EST. There are reports of the outside
of the Dome looking like a war zone from the Television announcers. Windo panes
on the upper concourse were blown out. The temperature in the Dome has dropped
ten degrees due to the opening in the roof. The game will
continue.
